CPS Board Member Dr. Elizabeth Todd-Breland Joins PAC on March 10 at 5:00pm!
Dr. Todd-Breland will present during the PAC meeting which takes place on March 10, 2021 at 5:00pm. She will present on the following topic: Black Women's History: Education Organizing on the South Side.

Black women have long been at the forefront of struggles for quality education--from Black mothers who fought against segregation, to Black students who protested for community control, and Black educators who organized for greater representation in the teaching force. This talk and discussion will consider the history of Black women who organized for quality education on the South Side of Chicago, with particular attention to the South Shore community.

Elizabeth Todd-Breland is author of A Political Education: Black Politics and Education Reform in Chicago Since the 1960s and associate professor of history at the University of Illinois at Chicago. She organizes professional development workshops and develops curricula on African American history, urban education, and racial justice. She is a member of the Chicago Board of Education.
